Calculate Your Gold Value
Why Use Our Gold Calculator?
Unlike standard calculators, our tool connects directly to live global financial APIs. We automatically do the complex math required to convert standard "kitchen scale" avoirdupois ounces (28.34g) into official Troy ounces (31.10g) to ensure you never accidentally overvalue or undervalue your metal.
Who can use this tool?
- Gold Prospectors & Detectorists: Instantly check the value of your raw nuggets and pickers out in the field.
- Jewelry Sellers: Find out the true "melt value" of your old rings and necklaces before going to a pawn shop.
- Scrap Metal Recyclers: Quickly calculate bulk yields for e-waste and scrap refining.
Common Jewelry Karat Types
Jewelry is rarely 24k pure because pure gold is too soft. It is alloyed with copper or silver for strength:
- 9k - 10k: Highly durable, common in older rings and discount jewelry.
- 14k: The most common standard in the US for everyday wear.
- 18k: Premium fine jewelry, offering a rich yellow color and good durability.
- 22k - 24k: Common in high-end Asian and Middle Eastern jewelry, very rich in color but prone to scratching.
Natural Purity of Famous Gold Fields
If you found a natural nugget, it is almost never 24k (99.9%) pure. Natural gold contains silver and copper. Here are the average karat values for gold pulled from famous regions:
- Kalgoorlie, Australia: ~22k (92% pure)
- Bendigo / Ballarat, AUS: ~23k (95%+ pure)
- Klondike, Yukon, Canada: ~19k - 20k (80-83% pure)
- Witwatersrand, South Africa: ~21k - 22k
- Mother Lode, California: ~19k - 21k
- Gympie, Queensland, AUS: ~22k
- Tarkwa, Ghana: ~21k - 22k
- Super Pit, Australia: ~21k
- Carlin Trend, Nevada, USA: ~20k (Microscopic but pure)
- Nome, Alaska, USA: ~21k
